Constitutional Charter of Southwest Babylon

Preamble

We, the People of Southwest Babylon, in recognition of the inherent dignity of every human being, the sacred balance of Nature, and the necessity of a governance rooted in truth, justice, and philosophical inquiry, do hereby establish this Constitution as the supreme foundational charter of our Micronation. We commit ourselves to building a sovereign, ecologically regenerative, and democratically governed state where all are free, all are respected, and all are empowered to live with integrity, freedom, and purpose.

Article I: Name, Territory, and Sovereignty

  1. Name: The official name of the nation shall be The International Micronation of Southwest Babylon.

  2. Territory: Southwest Babylon shall be established on repurposed or drought-affected lands with the purpose of ecological restoration and sustainable development.

  3. Sovereignty: Southwest Babylon is a sovereign entity, independent in its laws, governance, and values, while maintaining peaceful and respectful relations with other nations and communities.

  4. Symbolism: The nation shall adopt a flag, emblem, and anthem reflecting its core values: Nature, Philosophy, Truth, and Freedom.

Article II: Founding Vision and Principles

Southwest Babylon is founded upon the following cornerstone principles:

  1. True Honest Democracy: All governance must be transparent, participatory, and accountable to the people.

  2. Universal Human Rights: Every individual shall enjoy full civil, social, political, and spiritual rights, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, gender, religion, ability, or belief.

  3. Ecological Integrity: The Nation exists in harmony with the natural world and shall protect, restore, and co-create with ecosystems in all policies and practices.

  4. Philosophical and Intellectual Freedom: Access to philosophy, science, theology, and critical thinking shall be guaranteed to all, as essential to a free society.

  5. Non-Discrimination: Discrimination of any kind is unlawful and counter to the values of the Nation.

Article III: Citizenship and Identity

  1. Citizenship shall be open to all individuals who embrace the values of the Nation and commit to its constitutional principles.

  2. Residency is not required for citizenship; digital and diasporic citizenship are recognized.

  3. All citizens shall be granted:

    • The right to vote and be heard in public matters

    • Freedom of movement, expression, and belief

    • Protection under the law

Article IV: Government and Institutions

  1. Governance Structure:

    • The Nation shall be governed by a Council of Guardians, composed of elected representatives, philosophers, scientists, and citizens.

    • An Ecological Ministry, Cultural Ministry, and Philosophical Tribunal shall form the pillars of policy development.

  2. Head of Nation:

    • The Founding Architect, Lea Celik Sommerseth Shaw, shall serve as the symbolic Head of Nation until succeeded by democratic process.

  3. Elections and Representation:

    • Democratic elections shall be held every 4 years with equitable access for all citizens.

    • Decisions must reflect the collective will and long-term harmony with Nature.

Article V: Law and Justice

  1. Laws must be rooted in human dignity, ecological balance, and philosophical reasoning.

  2. A Judicial Assembly shall interpret and uphold the Constitution.

  3. Citizens shall have:

    • The right to a fair trial

    • Protection from unjust detention

    • Access to legal counsel and public defense

Article VI: Economy and Resource Ethics

  1. The economy of Southwest Babylon shall be regenerative, equitable, and community-based, with an emphasis on:

    • Renewable energy

    • Ethical technology

    • Knowledge-sharing economies

  2. Land and resources are held in public trust, not private dominion.

  3. The Nation supports decentralized systems and local empowerment over extractive models.

Article VII: Culture, Education, and Philosophy

  1. Philosophy and Critical Thinking are national priorities and shall be integrated into all levels of education.

  2. The Nation supports:

    • Cultural preservation

    • Interfaith and interspiritual dialogue

    • Artistic innovation and expression

  3. The National Academy of Philosophical and Theological Studies shall serve as the heart of intellectual life.

Article VIII: Foreign Relations and Peace Policy

  1. Southwest Babylon shall maintain peaceful, cooperative relationships with all nations that respect international human rights.

  2. The Nation is committed to:

    • Non-aggression

    • Mediation and diplomacy

    • Advocacy for stateless and marginalized peoples

Article IX: Nature as Co-Governor

  1. Nature shall be recognized as a sovereign entity and co-governor of the land.

  2. The rights of Nature shall be legally protected, including:

    • The right to regenerate

    • The right to be free from harm

    • The right to evolve naturally

Article X: Amendment Process

  1. This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Council of Guardians and approval by a majority of the citizenry.

  2. Amendments must never violate the foundational values of democracy, human rights, or ecological harmony.

Let it be known that this Charter, created under the guidance of the Founding Architect, Visionary Lea Celik Sommerseth Shaw for Southwest Babylon, is hereby supreme legal document of Southwest Babylon
